Neuro Linguistic Programming - NLP
Neuro Linguistic Programming - NLP is used in a large variety of ways. Some extraordinary claims are made for the power of NLP in a number of therapeutic fields. In business NLP is used to understand people, how to communicate with a large variety of different people and how to model excellence.
Using NLP in a job interview is now commonplace and is used by both the interviewer and the interviewee. Using NLP in a job interview used to be thought to be unethical but is now accepted as a legitimate means of improving communication in a stressful situation.
Business training using NLP is considered to be more effective than conventional training as the trainer structures the course using communication models which helps the trainee to retain more of the course content.
If you have someone who consistently excels in comparison to their colleagues they are probably doing something differently. Sometimes the person concerned is not aware of what they are doing differently - this is where NLP can be used to model their approach and use this information to improve other people's performance.
NLP techniques can also be used to understand customers better and how they make decisions. The customers can be people within the same organisation but in a different department.
Neurolinguistic programming does have its detractors who claim it is an unproven collection of pseudo-scientific nonsense. NLP certainly does have legitimacy problems but, to a large extent, these are offset by the results some practitioners deliver. Where the sceptics may complain of the lack of scientific rigour supporters of neuro linguistics programming carry on producing results.
