The Institute for Independent Business

The Institute for Independent Business or IIB was founded in 1984 and is an international accreditation organisation for senior business executives. There are approximately 4,000 accredited associates operating in some 22 countries. The fact that there are only 4,000 accredited associates when the institute was founded more than twenty years ago is a demonstration of the rigorous selection and training procedures used by the institute.

In order to receive accreditation the executive needs to be a mature business person who has been a senior business executive for a number of years. The potential associate is put through a series of tests to demonstrate their practical abilities coupled with in depth interviews to determine exactly what they achieved in their various positions. If all these hurdles are passed the executive attends a residential business school during which time there is additional continuous assessment. It is only after successfully completing all these stages that the executive is accredited by the institute.

The Institute developed a Business Support Programme to provide practical, hands on assistance to the Managing Directors / Owners of small and medium size businesses. As a requirement of on-going accreditation every Executive Associate accredited by the Institute is required to donate some time each month as free consultation to small and medium size businesses. In addition qualified businesses are entitled to sponsorship by the Institute which provides Executive Associates at reduced rates. There is a limit of 192 hours per year per company for thiese reduced rates.
